Ultimately, the board decided to listen to students and voted four to one in favor of the Denton Dragons. "(Parkview Lions) is a neutral name that plays toward inclusivity," he said. ![]() Trustee Charles Ulmschneider disagreed and said he was a fan of Parkview Lions. "I'd like to move we choose Denton dragons with green and gold." "I'd rather see a green dragon," she said, concerned with gang activity. ![]() The colors proposed for the dragons was red and gold. Board member Lucia Vazquez wanted to make a slight adjustment. "There wasn't a third that came close."įor students, there was only one choice for a mascot - dragons. "Those two names rose to the top," Gaebe said. Lions Park is directly across the street from the new school. The committee presented board members with the names and mascots at a previous board meeting.Ĭommittee members narrowed the list down to Parkview Elementary lions and Denton Elementary dragons. Teachers in the area were also asked to submit names.Īfter more than 200 names were submitted, committee members narrowed the list down to six: A committee made up of parents and students in the school's northwest attendance area, school representatives, community representatives and district officials worked for months to find the perfect name. ![]()
